Preserving the beauty and longevity of your rug is straightforward with these essential care instructions:
• Professional Cleaning: Maintain your rug's brilliance with specialist cleaning services.
• Vacuuming: Safeguard your rug's integrity by using a suction vacuum only. Avoid rotating brushes, which could potentially damage the delicate fibers. Protect the fringes from the vacuum's reach.
• Spills and Stains: In case of spills, delicately blot them with a clean, absorbent cloth. Refrain from rubbing or resorting to harsh detergents.
• Protect: For added protection against movement and colour transfer, we recommend using rug hold underlay.
100% Wool
Hand Knotted - A hand-knotted rug, is also largely referred to as an oriental rug. A hand knotted rug is a rug that is made by hand on a specialised vertical frame loom. The process of hand knotting rugs goes back a few thousand years. Produced using ancient techniques, knotted rugs are famous for their boundless design and color variations. Depending on the type of knots, the size of the wool strands, and strength of the knots, the density and quality of a rug is determined. Individual knotted rugs can take months, sometimes even years, to make due to the precision and level of skill required.

Cotton
Just as with everything else in life, a rug begins with a good foundation. A rug foundation refers to the base or primary structure of the rug that provides support and stability to the entire piece. It serves as the canvas onto which the decorative elements of the rug are added. The rug foundation is crucial for the overall durability and longevity of the rug.
Warp: The warp is the vertical set of yarns or threads that run the length of the rug from the top to the bottom. These yarns are usually tightly stretched on a loom before the rug weaving process begins. The number and spacing of the warp threads determine the density and fineness of the rug’s construction.
Weft: The weft is the horizontal set of yarns or threads that run across the width of the rug, from side to side. These weft threads are woven over and under the warp threads to create the structure of the rug. Weft threads can be inserted using a shuttle or by hand, depending on the weaving technique.
The combination of warp and weft creates the foundation of
the rug. Once the foundation is established, the decorative elements, such as the pile (in pile-woven rugs) or patterns (in flat-woven rugs), are added. In pile-woven rugs, the pile is formed by knotting or looping yarns around the warp threads, creating a raised surface. In flat-woven rugs, patterns are created by weaving different coloured weft threads in specific patterns.
The rug foundation, being the structural base, plays a crucial role in determining the overall strength, texture, and appearance
of the finished rug. It is an essential aspect of rug making that contributes to the artistry and functionality of the final product.
Yes, this rug is suitable for underfloor heating.

A true individual rug, is one of a kind, unique piece. The weavers will have a pattern to follow but each person has their own signature meaning no two are the same. Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure it's authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. As such, no two pieces are the same, meaning you can add an authentic and unique piece of crafted design into your home, whilst supporting this heritage industry.
