Sahara is made from 100% wool which is weaved on a handloom machine. Sahara provides employment to not only the weavers, but also to their families. The yarn is first opened up and warp is made by female family members of the weavers. The weavers who actually weave the rugs are the male family members. So in the production of Sahara, the entire family is engaged in work. And post weaving, it also provides employment to many semi-skilled labour who are engaged in latexing, whipping, third backing, clipping and final finishing and lastly packing.

Because each rug goes through many processes, this is the reason the employment generation rate is very high for Sahara Rugs. Below is a breakdown of each process and number of people it engages.

1 person to sheer the wool from the sheep.

1 group of 5 persons to run the Carding plant where the wool is spun into threads.

1 group of 3 persons to run the Twisting unit where the threads are twisted to make the final yarn.

1 group of 3 persons to run the Scuffling plant where the wool is washed to remove the oil and impurities.

1 group comprising of a dyeing master and 4 labours to run one chamber in the dyeing unit where the yarns are dyed into the desired colours.

1 group comprising of 4 family members to open the yarn and make the warp.

1 group comprising of 2 family members to weave the rug on a Handloom.

1 group comprising of 3 persons to latex the rug.

1 person to whip (hand serge) the edges.

1 group comprising of 3 persons for the Cloth backing.

1 person to do the final clipping.

1 person to do the final finishing.

1 group of 4 persons to do the packing.

Each rug goes through each of the above process and as you can see that because there are so many process, this is the reason Sahara provides employment to so many workers in India.

Care instructions: Vacuum regularly, using the nozzle and suction only. Rotating brushes may damage the fibres and the lifespan of your rug. Blot any spills with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub. We do not recommend to use any harsh detergents. Natural fibres may shed. This will reduce over time, and shouldn’t affect your rug’s lifespan or performance.

We recommend using a Goochy Grip. This will help to prevent your rug from moving underfoot and protects against colour transfer to the floor.
