The Red Afghan rugs also known as Aqchae are the classic Afghan style using two shades of red with a black or very dark blue pattern. Red Afghan Aqchae rugs are one of the most famous Afghan rug designs. The yarns are all dyed and then hand knotted in the Northern Afghanistan town of Aqchae. These are then transported over to Pakistan where they are expertly finished including washing and trimming. There are two main designs, one is ‘PheelPaa’ (Elephants foot) design, and the other is called ‘Mawree’ (Also known as Camel foot) design - a much smaller pattern.
